REST IN PEACE 💔 | LEANNE SELMAN, 41, IDENTIFIED AS WOMAN KILLED AFTER GUNMAN STORMED CITIBANK CENTER IN HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY, FLORIDA
BRANDON, FLORIDA — A community in Florida is mourning the tragic death of 41-year-old LeAnne Selman, who was fatally shot after an armed gunman stormed the Citibank Center corporate campus in Hillsborough County, triggering a terrifying shooting incident that left two people dead, including the suspected gunman.
Authorities identified Selman as the female victim who lost her life during the Wednesday, November 4, 2026, attack at the Citibank business complex in Brandon, Florida.
According to the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office, the incident unfolded when an armed man drove into the secured corporate campus and opened fire, sending hundreds of employees into panic as they desperately attempted to escape or find somewhere to hide.
A DEADLY ATTACK AT CITIBANK CENTER
Investigators said the suspect, identified as 35-year-old Jacob Pearson of Orlando, drove his vehicle through a security gate and entered an outdoor courtyard at the Citibank Center shortly after noon.
He reportedly exited his vehicle carrying an AR-15-style rifle and immediately opened fire on Selman, shooting her multiple times.
According to Sheriff Chad Chronister, the gunman’s rifle malfunctioned during the attack. He then returned to his vehicle, retrieved another handgun and continued the assault while Selman was attempting to crawl away.
Sadly, she did not survive her injuries.
The suspect subsequently entered the corporate facility, where terrified employees ran for safety as the situation escalated.
SECURITY OFFICER STOPS FURTHER BLOODSHED
As the gunman moved further into the building, an armed Citibank security officer confronted him.
The security officer, identified as John Fraley, a Marine Corps veteran and vice president of operations, reportedly positioned himself near a men’s restroom before engaging the suspect in an exchange of gunfire.
Authorities said Fraley shot the gunman five times, bringing the deadly attack to an end.
Pearson was transported to Tampa General Hospital, where he later died from his injuries.
Law enforcement officials praised the security officer’s response, stating that his actions prevented the situation from becoming even more devastating.
WHAT LED TO THE SHOOTING?
During a press briefing, investigators revealed that the incident was reportedly connected to a $2,500 debt collection dispute involving Citibank.
According to Sheriff Chronister, Pearson had received a court summons concerning an outstanding debt and contacted a law firm handling collection proceedings on behalf of the financial institution.
During the telephone conversation, he allegedly made explicit threats, warning that he could travel to the facility armed with a rifle and body armour if the legal proceedings were not cancelled.
The law firm reportedly alerted Citibank’s head of security, who considered the threat serious and contacted authorities to request a welfare check.
However, by the time officers arrived at Pearson’s residence, he had already left.
Security personnel subsequently alerted the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office, prompting deputies to respond to the corporate campus.
Despite the warnings and efforts to prevent the situation from escalating, the deadly shooting still occurred.
Authorities have not established why Selman was the person attacked. Investigators indicated that she had no known connection to the suspect, and she may simply have been in the wrong place at the wrong time.
FOUR OTHER EMPLOYEES INJURED DURING THE CHAOS
The shooting also left other employees shaken and injured as thousands of workers attempted to flee the corporate campus.
According to authorities, approximately 3,200 employees were present when the incident occurred.
Four additional employees sustained injuries or experienced medical complications during the evacuation. Their injuries included cuts, scrapes, chest pains and a precautionary medical evaluation involving a pregnant employee.
All four were treated and released.
The incident prompted a massive emergency response involving hundreds of law enforcement personnel, including specialised units that worked to secure the sprawling business complex.
